In 1950, founder Guy Schoenecker established the company as a merchandise and jewelry discounter to meet the promotional demands of local retailers. It soon evolved into Business Incentives, offering consumer incentives like trading stamps and continuity programs to clients in sectors such as grocery, petroleum, and finance.
During the 1960s and 1970s, the company expanded quickly, adding a travel division and extending its services to include dealer, channel, and employee incentives. In the following decade, it further diversified its offerings to include market research, recognition programs, and event production. The company received the Minnesota State Quality Award and the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in the 1990s for its commitment to quality.
In the new millennium, BI WORLDWIDE ventured into custom Web-based learning and consumer loyalty marketing. Strategic acquisitions expanded our reach to the UK, Australia, and China, and new offices were opened in Canada and Germany to cater to our global clientele. Notable additions included the FirstTouch Virtual Meeting Center, RAVE—a mobile platform to enhance employee engagement—and the AwardBound incentive travel rewards system. Our 60th anniversary in 2010 marked sales exceeding $400 million.
