SATRA, established in 1919, is an independent research and testing organization with technical facilities in the UK and China, serving clients worldwide. Besides testing products and components to European and international standards across various industry sectors, SATRA also develops, manufactures, and sells testing equipment. It is a Notified Body for several European directives, such as personal protective equipment (PPE), which is one of SATRA's largest operational sectors. SATRA operates its own chemicals analysis laboratory to test restricted substances according to European REACH and U.S. chemical regulations, and it is CPSC-accredited.

Considered a leading technical authority in footwear and leather, SATRA allows companies in these industries to become members to gain exclusive access to SATRA's test methods, accreditation, consultancy, research facilities, technical training, and factory production management systems. Many SATRA systems are recognized in the supply chain as setting industry standards for quality and production efficiency.
