POSITION SUMMARY:
Experienced Engineer to join Amphenol TCS Product Engineering team. As a Volume Site Product Engineer, the candidate would be the technical expert for one or more connector product lines responsible for planning and managing complex technical projects related to business objectives. Provide technical leadership and product design discipline for multiple product lines and supporting the manufacturing organization. Work as part of a cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, and business team. Provide technical expertise in the design development and manufacture of connector products while providing direction to other engineers and support personnel related to ongoing manufacturing of product. Assist in integrating new technologies, innovative manufacturing methods and critical cost initiatives into aspects of process/product designs supporting new product releases and derivative offerings. Support the overall business by executing the technical aspects of the strategic plans of the organization, act as the technical liaison expert for sales and marketing groups as well as a technical resource for the entire product value stream from component fabrication to customer application.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
61 Maintain product quality and reliability, ensure mechanical integrity, and perform failure analysis on defects from manufacturing processes through customer applications.
61 Manage product related documentation and specifications at the component level, the manufacturing processes, and field application performance by maintaining all aspects of the product design integrity.
61 Serve as the customer focal point in support of technical product information, in-field applications and general guidance related to product performance.
61 Function as the technical resource in support of the manufacturing operations and maintain continuous integration with the NH Product and Development teams on all aspects of component and connector design integrity.
61 Work closely with internal and external suppliers and manufacturing personnel, supporting the development and validation of product prototypes thru pilot production, as well as interfacing with beta-site customers.
61 Be responsible for the successful transition of products and processes from NPI phase to volume manufacturing into manufacturing regions and regular interfacing with Global NPI and manufacturing engineering groups at the connector manufacturing facilities.
61 Provide technical assistance to drafters, designers, engineers, and other support personnel in support of existing products.
61 Support the product design effort in a mechanical capacity by developing / participating in tolerance analysis work, FEA, material evaluation efforts and failure analysis activities.
61 Take part in efforts leading to new / alternate material identification and benchmarking as well as participating in development of new innovative manufacturing techniques supporting product lines.
61 Actively participate / integrate with product designers in support of design reviews, component and product testing and qualification, and introduction of new products including product derivatives supporting market demands.
61 Participate in quality investigations and quality improvement initiatives in support of operational excellence.
61 Participate in fixture design and in creating and managing test plans supporting the NPI process.
61 Identify and facilitate a variety of project initiatives such as cost improvement, overall quality initiatives, and product performance benchmarking.
Qualifications:
61 BS/MS Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or Electrical Engineering
61 Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
61 Basic to good understanding of GD&T methodologies
61 Experience with solid modeling tools (Pro/E), FEA tools a plus
61 Ability to communicate with technical & non-technical people
61 Ability to work in dynamic team environment
61 Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently
61 Ability to travel up to 50% domestic and international
Additional:
61 Desire to create and design new products and processes
61 Knowledge of copper alloys and high-performance engineering thermoplastics would be a plus
61 Basic understanding of electrical connectors
61 Proficiency with MS Office suite
61 Experience with Minitab
