POSITION PURPOSE
The Senior Lab Project Engineer is responsible for initiating a best-in-class Test Lab, the efficient operation of the Lab, and the execution of test plans provided by the business. This individual will make strategic decisions by aligning global stakeholders to maximize the value and efficiency of testing and data provided to the business. This individual will lead the strategic planning of lab capacity to effectively meet evolving business needs.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
61 On time & on spec delivery of Lab testing projects to support new products, product improvements, supplier risk reduction and cost out. This includes, but is not limited to:
87 Lead the coordination and execution of lab testing activities to ensure test plans are thorough, aligned with project goals, and will deliver high-quality test data on schedule.
87 Translate project and product requirements into detailed test requests, working closely with design engineers, test requestors, and lab technicians to ensure accurate and efficient execution.
87 Collaborate with cross-functional teams to validate test methods and equipment setups, ensuring tests meet thermal, acoustic, vibration, and controls requirements as applicable.
87 Collaborate with Engineering Managers, engineers, and technicians to prioritize workload and manage test execution across multiple programs.
87 Monitor test progress, troubleshoot issues, and ensure proper data collection, accuracy, and documentation for reporting and analysis.
87 Track and communicate test status, results, and risks to project teams and stakeholders. Prepare clear, concise updates and technical summaries when required.
61 Support the development and continuous improvement of test procedures, documentation, and lab workflows to improve repeatability, efficiency, and technical robustness.
61 Assist in defining and tracking lab performance metrics, providing input on operational effectiveness, test throughput, and data quality.
61 Ensure all work adheres to lab safety protocols and environmental compliance standards; support the integration of safety best practices in test planning and execution.
61 Participate in capital project planning for new test equipment or infrastructure related to expanding testing capabilities.
61 Contribute to maintaining a professional and organized lab environment that reflects world-class standards.
NATURE & SCOPE
The Senior Lab Project Engineer will report to the Global Engineering Manager, Components, as part of Global Engineering. Since Lab requests are submitted by many departments, including Engineering, Manufacturing, Marketing and Sales, the Senior Lab Project Engineer will have significant interaction with all levels and functions within the organization. This role will have Lab technicians as direct reports.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Required
61 Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering
61 10+ years Engineering/Operations experience, with 5+ years working in a test Lab and/or operations environment
61 Demonstrated strength in accountability, cross-functional collaboration and influence, planning and organization, adaptability in dynamic environments, a strong sense of urgency, and effective decision-making under pressure
61 Strong ability to process test data, interpret test results, troubleshoot problems, and summarize the study with recommendations
61 Proven capability in managing and delivering lab test projects that include setup, data collection, and teardown
61 Demonstrated ability to motivate and influence others
61 Can translate general requests into executable plans
61 Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
61 Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
61 Fluency in English required
61 Technical Expertise:
o Excellent engineering judgement to ensure test plan is thorough and high-quality data is collected
o Hands-on experience of instrumentation, data collection, and data processing
61 Understands HVAC/Industrial/Refrigeration system operations and drivers
