EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) Working Requirements
EHS professionals are responsible for ensuring workplace safety, environmental compliance, and employee health. Below are key working requirements for EHS roles:
1. Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with local, national, and international EHS regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, ISO 45001, ISO
14001).
- Stay updated on changing laws and implement necessary changes.
2. Workplace Safety
- Conduct risk assessments (HIRA, JSA) and implement control measures.
- Develop and enforce safety policies (PPE, LOTO, confined space entry, etc.).
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and implement corrective actions.
3. Environmental Protection
- Manage waste disposal, emissions, and pollution control.
- Ensure compliance with environmental permits and sustainability initiatives.
- Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIA).
4. Occupational Health
- Monitor workplace hazards (chemical, ergonomic, biological).
- Implement health programs (hearing conservation, respiratory protection).
- Conduct employee health training and medical surveillance.
5. Training & Awareness
- Organize EHS training for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Promote a strong safety culture through toolbox talks and awareness campaigns.
6. Emergency Preparedness
- Develop and test emergency response plans (fire, chemical spills, medical emergencies).
- Ensure availability of aid, fire extinguishers, and evacuation routes.
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain EHS records (incident reports, inspection logs, training records).
- Submit regulatory reports (OSHA 300, EPA Tier II, etc.).
8. Continuous Improvement
- Conduct audits and inspections to identify gaps.
- Implement best practices and EHS management systems (ISO 45001/14001).
Key Skills & Qualifications
- Degree in EHS, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Certifications like CSP, NEBOSH, CIH, or OSHA 30/40-hour training.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
