Duties and Responsibilities
1. Professional Conduct & School Alignment
- Uphold the school’s vision, ethos, and boarding culture. Promote high standards in student academic progress, behaviour, welfare, and safeguarding.
- Adhere to the Harrow Staff Code of Conduct (punctuality, attire, exemplary conduct) and Comply with all school policies (health & safety, safeguarding, boarding handbook).
- Seek clarification from ADoH on policy ambiguities.
2. Student Supervision & Daily Operations
- Supervise students during day schedules (wake-up, bedtime, transitions, activities).
- Enforce house rules and routines under ADoH guidance.
- Foster a culture of courtesy, respect, and English as the primary language.
- Conduct roll calls, maintain attendance records, uniform checks, room checks, and track student whereabouts.
- Manage nightly collection of electronic devices; report violations to ADoH.
- Actively encourage student participation in boarding life and supervise prep sessions.
- Review homework logs, provide academic guidance if needed, and sign off reports.
- Support new student orientation, induction, and term transitions.
3. Health, Safety & Safeguarding
- Monitor student health (medical conditions, diets, hygiene, uniforms, room tidiness).
- Assist medical staff with prescriptions; escort students to hospitals if needed.
- Liaise with medical centre on protocols and updates.
- Conduct boarding house risk assessments; report hazards/near-misses.
- Enforce safeguarding protocols: open-door/knocking procedures, room searches, and missing student protocols.
4. Communication & Parent Engagement
- Communicate proactively with parents; respond to inquiries within 24 hours (escalate complex issues to ADoH). Update parents on student welfare, health, and safety.
- Approve off-campus requests during boarding hours and issue exit passes.
- Report behavioural/safeguarding/maintenance issues to ADoH for logging.
- Adhere strictly to communication protocols in Boarding Staff Handbook.
5. Facility Management
- Supervise cleaning/maintenance staff to ensure safety and cleanliness.
- Conduct daily room inspections (tidiness, repairs, hazards).
- Manage linen inventory and laundry processes.
- Prepare boarding house for term start/end (room readiness, welcoming environment).
- Inspect vacated rooms; store/document left belongings; notify ADoH for parent retrieval.
- Maintain organised, compliant storage/office areas (labeled supplies, clutter-free).
6. Emergency Response
- Serve on-call 5 nights/week (Sunday–Thursday) for *** point call for emergencies.
- Respond to alarms and participate in fire drills/lock down (record attendance).
7. Professional Development & Additional Duties
- Attend training on safeguarding, health & safety, and school meetings as required.
- Supervise students during remote learning (extreme weather/unforeseen events) in boarding houses as required.
- Chaperone termly boarding trips (safety, protocol compliance, engagement) as required.
- Fulfill other reasonable duties assigned by ADoH
Requirements
Education, Training and Qualifications
- Be educated to degree level.
- A positive and solution-focused attitude to working life.
- Able to establish a healthy rapport with pupils, staff, parents and carers.
- A high level of professionalism and consideration of the well-being of children.
- Able to work effectively and harmoniously as part of an energetic, cohesive and hardworking team.
- Strong organisation, writing and IT skills.
- Recent and consistent involvement in extracurricular activities.
- Respect for all members of the school community, irrespective of position, gender, age and ethnic background.
- Previous experience working with students for whom English is not their *** language.
Knowledge and Experience
- Demonstrate an understanding of the needs of students aged 10 –
19.
- Demonstrate an understanding of different cultures and practices.
- Well organised and able to calmly deal with emergencies.
- Experience of working in a boarding capacity desirable but not essential.

Other
- A clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police check (for applicants who have never worked in UK) and no question regarding suitability to work with children.
