Description:
The Global Manufacturing Director is responsible for leading a global manufacturing operation to meet the production goals and order fulfillment in the delivering of products based on the quality, delivery time and cost requirements of the headquarters and customers.
To achieve this goal, the job incumbent formulates a global manufacturing strategy in line with the corporate direction and strategic priorities, manage all global manufacturing sites including outsourcing partners to ensure that all production needs and standards are met, works with New Product Development and the Quality team in developing clear global quality standards and standard operating procedures, drives for continuous improvement to enhance product quality, delivery time, and cost-effectiveness, plans the deployment of resources including materials and workers efficiently based on forecasts, lead, train and motivate the work force to achieve high level of productivity, monitor, analyze and evaluate performance data to identify and address key problems in the production process, and work with other departments in a collaborative effort to continuously review the adoption of innovative manufacturing technologies, materials and work methods to build a best-in-class manufacturing operation.
Responsibilities:
- Formulate, execute, and evaluate a global manufacturing strategy in line with the corporate goals and strategic priorities to ensure alignment with the overall direction
- Continuously assess the most effective options in meeting the product needs of the business through developing and deploying global supply centers
- Keep abreast of the benchmarks in manufacturing best practices within and outside the industry, identify opportunity to adopt these best practices in-house for improving the operation
- Work with New Product Development and Quality team to develop and document clear quality standard, consistent/standard operating procedures and work instructions on a global basis
- Create a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, drives for continuous efforts to improve product quality, delivery time and cost-effectiveness
- Ensure manufacturing productivity through effective production planning including deployment of people, materials, facilities and other resources based on demand forecasts to minimize wastage and inefficiencies
- Lead, train and motivate the work force to achieve high level of productivity to meet manufacturing goals and performance indicators
- Collect, analyze and evaluate manufacturing performance data through different channels to determine and identify key problems and address them accordingly
- Work with Research and Development and New Product Development teams to assess and evaluate innovative technologies, materials and work methods for opportunities to adopt them to achieve manufacturing excellence
- Communicate closely with the Quality team to identify and analyze key reasons for rejection and take actions to rectify related quality issues
- Identify key risks associated with the manufacturing operation which would affect the normal operation, establish contingency plans and preventive actions, train and communicate with the work force accordingly to ensure these risked are properly managed
- Put into place measures, systems and processes to ensure the work force operates in a safe environment and educate them to build a safety *** mindset
- Monitor closely the data on gold loss, establish control measures and mechanisms to ensure it is effectively managed with minimum wastage, maximum restoration and elimination of risks with employee integrity.
- Deploy quality management systems and tools such as lean, TQM, six sigma, BPR, etc. to drive the culture and build practices/skills on continuous improvement
- Develop and manage outsourced manufacturing operation based on the consistent company standards on quality, delivery time and cost-effectiveness
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Management or related discipline
- A minimum of 15 years of all-rounded manufacturing operation experience in the jewelry industry with 5 years of manufacturing management experience independently managing multiple production plants
- Experienced with supplier management system and outsourced manufacturing on a global basis
- Proven track record in developing consistent quality and management systems to ensure reliable performances across multiple manufacturing sites
- High proficiency level in written and spoken English, command of the Chinese language preferable (both Mandarin and Cantonese)
- Experience with applying quality management systems, processes and tools such as TQM, lean, BPR, or six sigma to achieve continuous improvement results preferable
- Expert level knowledge of jewelry manufacturing best practices and state-of-the-art technologies in the industry
- Strong analytical thinking capability
