Job Description:
The Legal Counsel – Employment (APAC) will support the Senior Legal Counsel by leading the strategic integration of Abdul Latif Jameel’s global employment strategy across its APAC operations. The role is responsible for delivering timely, accurate, and practical employment legal advice to business units, mitigating legal, financial, regulatory, and reputational risk while supporting regional business objectives.
Functional:
Responsible for employment matters across Abdul Latif Jameel’s APAC network, with primary accountability for integrating Corporate Employment Legal (“CEL”) strategy into business units in this region and aligning local practices with global priorities.
Providing employment law advice across a range of contentious and non-contentious matters with a view to helping Abdul Latif Jameel mitigate legal financial, regulatory, and reputational risk across the APAC region.
Advising on employee relations issues across APAC network, including disciplinary and grievance matters, investigations, performance management and contentious termination cases.
Partners with CEL team to ensure professional handling of disputes and grievances.
Supporting key business strategies and projects, including the “Aligned with our Values” campaign.
Updating stakeholders on legal/regulatory developments and employment law best practices.
Advising on and participating in consultation on internal policies and procedures.
Advising on key HR initiatives, including, compensation, benefits, and diversity, equity and inclusion.
Providing support for M&A integration, including advice on staff consultation obligations, union obligations and restructuring.
Advising on data privacy issues within the context of employment law.
Advising on employment law aspects of HR policy or strategy projects, and co-ordinating advice from other members of CEL and/or external counsel.
Deliver training for business units on employment related topics, such as employee relations and terminations.
Advising on and proactively managing employment disputes across Abdul Latif Jameel’s network of businesses in APAC, including managing external counsel, litigation strategy, identifying and analysing opportunities for settlement, preparing, and managing stakeholder expectations.
Requirements:
Displays exemplary conduct to live by Abdul Latif Jameel’s core values.
Bachelor’s degree in Law or a closely related field.
Must be qualified to practice as a solicitor or lawyer in a common law jurisdiction, such as UK/Australia, and admitted to practice law.
At least 7-8 years of legal advisory experience.
Must have dedicated employment law experience, including law firm (private practice) and in-house.
Experience in contentious and non-contentious employment matters.
Fluency in English (must command excellent language skills)
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
Knowledge of employment laws and regulatory framework across APAC.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
