For the millions of coffee lovers around the world, that aroma is irresistible, from rugged Colombian and Guatemalan coffees to familiar blends like hazelnut, almond, vanilla, and chocolate, to combinations like blueberry and gingerbread coffee. It is estimated that about 500 billion cups of coffee are served worldwide every year. The United States alone, which is by no means the world’s largest consumer of coffee, has more than 105 million coffee drinkers. Few commodities in the world can even come close to rivaling coffee for its global appeal. The worldwide proliferation of coffee drinkers and the industry’s ever increasing revenues are evidence that coffee has become “the global beverage of choice.”

Since its inception in the late fifties, the Bunn-O-Matic Corporation has been a dominant player in the coffee industry. Across North America and in many parts of the world, the brewing equipment most synonymous with the wonderful aroma and taste of freshly brewed coffee carries the name “BUNN.”

The Company

In 1958, George Bunn, the founder of Bunn-O-Matic Corporation, began experimenting in his kitchen on a better way to make coffee. When his work proved the feasibility of using paper filters instead of cloth to produce a sediment-free, quality cup of coffee, he set out to build a better coffee brewer.

The early BUNN brewers utilized conical shaped funnels and filters using paper which permitted users to throw away the used filter and avoid cleaning cloth filters for re-use. A tank full of hot water was incorporated into these brewers permitting twelve cups of coffee to be brewed in less than four minutes. Other early innovations included timers and flow controls for automatic operation of the brewer. A special spray head was developed to evenly distribute the hot water over the coffee grounds to ensure the consistency of the brewing process. The brewers were sold under the name “Bunn-O-Matic”. The successful introduction of these brewers led to the incorporation of the company as Bunn-O-Matic Corporation in 1963.

BUNN coffee brewers have gained wide acceptance and are now found where ever fine coffee is brewed, such as the well-known chains like McDonald’s, Hardee’s, Dunkin’ Donuts, Starbuck’s, 7-11 and BP. Today, under the leadership of Hy Bunn, Chairman and CEO, Bunn-O-Matic Corporation manufactures and distributes a complete line of coffee brewers, tea brewers, grinders, hot drink machines, frozen and cold drink dispensers, hot water machines, water conditioning systems and other beverage equipment.
