Shanghai Expo Centre is a subsidiary of Shanghai Exhibition Center (Group) Company Limited (SEG). It also offers exhibition, convention, event, and space leasing services, forming, together with the SEG, two landmark buildings on the east and west banks of the Huangpu River in Shanghai. After its completion, the Shanghai Expo Centre will serve as a world-class convention center. During the 2010 Shanghai Expo, it undertook critical tasks such as ceremonies, cultural exchanges, VIP receptions, press conferences, and operational command. Post-Expo, it will transform into a key venue for large-scale high-end international conferences, performing both governmental affairs functions, including hosting the Party Congress and People's Congress sessions and other governmental meetings, and social functions by opening up to the market and local communities. Leveraging its core competencies in professional convention, exhibition, and event (banquet) services, the Shanghai Expo Centre will exemplify the image of Shanghai as an international metropolis and enhance the city's overall competitiveness.
