VON ARDENNE Vacuum Technology GmbH was established in 1991 as a spin-off from the Manfred von ARDENNE Institute in Dresden, Germany. Headquartered in Dresden, Germany, the company has subsidiaries in China, Japan, Malaysia, the USA, and Vietnam.

The von Ardenne Group specializes in developing and producing advanced vacuum coating equipment for depositing ultra-thin functional film layers on various materials like glass, metal strips, crystalline silicon, polymer films, and flexible glass. Their equipment uses two primary technologies: magnetron sputtering and electron beam evaporation. They own over 650 patents globally.

In 2006, the VON ARDENNE Group set up a subsidiary in Shanghai, VON ARDENNE Vacuum Equipment (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., a high-tech company that facilitates local production of some of their equipment.
