Our business spans the entire upstream oilfield sector, from subsurface layers to surface well operations. Our services are centered around three main areas: reservoir characterization, drilling, and production. In reservoir characterization, we employ seismic, pressure, and other measurements to assess reservoir conditions. During drilling, advanced technologies enable real-time data collection for precise well placement. In the production phase, a range of systems and techniques are employed to bring oil and gas to the surface.

Schlumberger's footprint in China

Schlumberger entered the Chinese oil industry in 1980 during a period of significant economic liberalization and technology importation. Initially, our services were confined to land and offshore logging. Since then, our offerings have expanded extensively, covering the entire upstream domain in China. We introduced cutting-edge logging technologies, which later evolved to include completion, testing, cementing, enhanced production, data management, geoscience software, data interpretation, consulting services, directional drilling, real-time logging, and artificial lift systems.

In China, Schlumberger currently employs approximately 2,000 staff members, with over 90% being local hires. Our operations are spread across eight bases in strategic locations such as Kuerle, Karamay, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Tanggu, Daqing, Dingbian, and Jingbian. We provide comprehensive services both onshore and offshore in China. Schlumberger established its Beijing Earth Science Center (BEC) in 2000 within the Tsinghua Science Park, serving as one of our primary technology development centers. BEC's geological mechanics and rock physics analysis software, along with advanced interpretation and processing techniques, have been widely adopted globally, optimizing oil and gas recovery while mitigating risks. In 2004, we opened an Asia-Pacific procurement center in Pudong, Shanghai, focusing on raw materials and components supply for our manufacturing facilities worldwide, enhancing our market competitiveness. This center was later expanded to incorporate Singapore and India into a unified Asia-Pacific procurement network. Additionally, we have constructed a manufacturing facility in Shanghai Qingpu, featuring two plants dedicated to the production of perforating guns and completion equipment. In Tianjin, Schlumberger established XPC Oilfield Equipment Co., Ltd. in 2006, specializing in the manufacture of traditional submersible electric pump products for our artificial lift division.
