Hella's activities in China began in the early 1980s. In 1982, a Hella delegation visited China to initiate involvement through signed license agreements. In 1996, Hella established two joint ventures in Changchun and Shanghai to further develop its business in the Chinese market and demonstrate its commitment to China. After ten years, the Hella Group now operates 9 companies in China with 1,800 employees to meet customer demands in this important market.

1982: First Hella delegation visit to China;
1984-1991: Cooperation and license agreements for relays, horns, and lighting;
1996: Establishment of two joint ventures in Changchun and Shanghai for automotive lighting;
1999: Establishment of Changchun Changhai for the truck market and HCN (trading) for the aftermarket in Shanghai;
2002: Establishment of HCT in Changchun for tooling; establishment of HBL joint venture in Beijing for special OE;
2003: Establishment of HCDL in Changchun for lighting development; establishment of BSL joint venture in Beijing for automotive lighting with SamLip;
2004: Establishment of HSDE in Shanghai for electronic development; establishment of HAE joint venture for relays in Xiamen; establishment of HAIS;
2005-2006: Restructuring of Hella's business in China: 100% Hella ownership of HCL and HSE; merger of HCL with HCDL and HSE with HSDE.

Hella Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., as a wholly-owned trading company in China, is responsible for sales and service in the automotive parts aftermarket and serves special OE customers such as buses and construction machinery.
