On September 5, 2018, the company signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Guangdong Province and an initial investment agreement for the ExxonMobil Huizhou Chemical Complex Project with Huizhou City and Daya Bay Management Committee.

The project has been designated as one of the national seven major foreign-funded projects and has received strong backing from government authorities in Guangdong Province.

Phase one of the project will include steam cracking, production of polyethylene and polypropylene, pyrolysis gasoline hydrogenation, aromatics extraction, butadiene production, and clean fuel oil. Associated public utilities, terminals, storage and transportation, and environmental protection facilities will also be included. Scheduled for completion by the end of 2023, the site will serve as a critical platform for future expansions.
