TechConsult Shanghai was established in July 2018 to support Carcoustics in its growth. Before the official opening on August 14, 2018, only TechConsult Leverkusen was available. The distance between China and Europe, spanning 8,000 kilometers and a six-to-seven-hour time difference, made supporting colleagues in Langfang and promptly addressing their needs very challenging.

With the establishment of TechConsult Shanghai, we can now respond more swiftly to requests from our clients and the Langfang Technical Unit, as well as the Langfang and Shenyang plants. Shanghai was selected due to its role as the economic hub of China, allowing easy access to all key regions. Additionally, many Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) have nearby offices for production, headquarters, development, or design centers.

TechConsult Shanghai comprises two departments: Materials/Laboratory and Acoustics/Thermodynamics, along with Material and Acoustics/Thermodynamics Testing. The team currently consists of four members: the Head of TechConsult Shanghai/Materials Expert, an Acoustics Engineer, a Testing Engineer, and a TSM, who is functionally linked to the Langfang Technology Unit but operates from TechConsult Shanghai to be closer to clients. The facility, covering 300 square meters, houses equipment for developing and testing raw materials and finished parts, including climate chambers, furnaces, IR spectroscopy, universal testing machines, fire testing devices, an acoustic camera, an alpha cabin, an impedance tube, and a thermal imaging camera. A multi-functional area allows for sample preparation, welcoming visitors, and conducting car benchmarking, as demonstrated during the opening ceremony. Future expansions are planned, including the addition of a semi-anechoic chamber for acoustic vehicle surveys in 2019.

The responsibilities of TechConsult Shanghai mirror those of TechConsult Leverkusen but focus on the Asian market. Specific duties include:
- Assisting the Langfang Technology Department in developing new solutions, enhancing existing products, and selecting appropriate materials and technologies to meet customer and car body requirements.
- Collaborating on innovation projects, continuous improvement initiatives, and achieving 5% savings targets.
- Conducting comprehensive material and component testing at physical, chemical, acoustic, and thermodynamic levels to generate PPAP documents, develop raw materials, or address customer complaints.
- Creating material specifications with Chinese suppliers and sharing material data sheets with colleagues and customers.
- Managing IMDS and CAMDS processes with Chinese customers.
- Supporting supplier development efforts by working with procurement and quality departments to identify and develop new suppliers and raw materials.
- Monitoring market trends through participation in conferences, exhibitions, and trade fairs.
- Assisting the sales and technical sales teams in presenting better solutions to clients and expanding the car body business and market share.
- Providing training, such as basic training sessions, to acquaint new colleagues with the Carcoustics process, materials, and foundational knowledge of acoustics and thermodynamics.
- Benchmarking local C-OEM vehicles in collaboration with European colleagues and the Business Unit China.
- Developing current and future vehicle models for clients, focusing on improving NVH and thermodynamic properties using innovative body solutions and products.

For these tasks, we utilize the same test equipment as TechConsult Leverkusen and the future North American TechConsult, facilitating seamless result exchanges and close collaboration. Despite being smaller than the TechConsult departments at our headquarters in Leverkusen, we are well-equipped with testing facilities and collaborate closely with the central laboratory, the Leverkusen Acoustics and Thermodynamics department, and external laboratories and third-party resources for tests we cannot conduct ourselves.
