HSBC Bank (China) Company Limited commenced operations on April 2, 2007, as a domestically registered foreign entity, wholly owned by The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited. Established in 1865 in Hong Kong and Shanghai, this company is a cornerstone of the HSBC Group. Prior to this, HSBC China functioned as the mainland branches of its parent company.

Among foreign banks investing in mainland China, HSBC is one of the prominent players, contributing to the development of its own business while also taking stakes in domestic financial institutions, notably Bank of Communications.

Employing approximately 7,000 staff, nearly 99% of whom are local talents, HSBC China has an extensive network of about 140 service locations spread across over 50 cities in mainland China.
